Tony Lucien, of Smith and Sons Maroubra, completed our home extension after being recommended by two separate friends of ours who were extremely satisfied with his workmanship. We had outgrown our existing home and needed a bigger home for our growing family. The extension Tony completed consisted of an additional bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, new internalized laundry, dining room, lounge room, deck, outdoor kitchen and a new roof for the entire house. We needed this job to be completed in a timely manner, without compromising the quality of the job. There were several things that impressed us about Tony. Firstly, he completed the job within the timeframe he specified, which allowed us to move in before Christmas and host lunch for our families. Although there were a few weeks of rain leading up to Christmas, Tony worked above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that we could move in as promised. Secondly, the quality of his work is second to none. We have gone through two major renovations in different homes and none had the structural quality and attention to detail that Tony provided in his thorough approach to our job. In addition, we were very satisfied with the value for money. Tony’s quote was very competitive, yet the materials that he used were of a very high quality, right from termite-treated timber frame to the renowned brands of the windows and roof. Finally, the aspect of Tony’s service that separates him the most from other builders is his level of communication. Tony is passionate about his work and not only did he explain every stage of the job in laymen’s terms to us, but he sent photographs via mobile phone on a weekly basis to show us the progress of our home extension. We couldn’t have asked for any more in a builder and wouldn’t hesitate to employ his services again. In fact, we have already referred Tony to a family member and a close friend to undertake work on their homes.
I had a significant lounge room extension completed, along with the addition of a new deck. While the job initially appeared straightforward, there emerged a number of challenges surrounding incorporation of the new roof with the existing structure, particularly in relation to the location of drainage.
I was really happy with how Matt was able to problem solve the issue and come up with a workable solution, which also involved replacing more of the existing guttering than had originally been anticipated. The issue of finding terracotta bricks to match the existing structure was also handled really well and once completed, it was impossible to tell that replacement bricks had been used.
Lastly, I was impressed that cornice had been found to identically match the existing cornice in the lounge room. It was this attention to detail that left me really happy with the final outcome of the project, which was completed over a period of 3 months in line with the original quotation, despite the issues noted above. The work has significantly increased both the liveability of my property and its presentation.
