McClelland – Extension

The McClelland project began with a charming yet tired weatherboard home that was ready for a transformation. The home, though full of character, was cramped, outdated, and lacked the necessary space for a growing family. The bathrooms and kitchen were particularly in need of modernization, and the entire home required more storage and a better layout to meet the family's needs.

Our task was clear: to expand and modernize this home while preserving its original charm. We embarked on an extensive renovation and extension that included a new kitchen, living, and dining room, a generously sized walk-in pantry, laundry, and mudroom. The existing layout was reconfigured, turning the old living room into a spacious master suite complete with a walk-in robe and ensuite. The family bathroom was also enlarged and refreshed to meet modern standards.

From the beginning, our clients were deeply involved in the project, using our Design, Plan, and Construct process to ensure their vision was realized at every step. Their primary goal was to create an open-plan living space with ample storage, all while keeping the new design cohesive with the original style of the home.

One of the standout features of the McClelland project was the preservation and enhancement of the home's unique characteristics. The original stained glass front door and highlight window were carefully restored and repainted, becoming a focal point of the revitalized façade. We also reinstalled the existing decorative doors, giving the home a fresh yet familiar feel. The addition of a wrap-around deck added another dimension to the home, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living.

The project wasn’t without its challenges, but our close collaboration with the clients ensured that every hurdle was overcome. From design decisions to construction details, the clients were involved at every stage, which not only kept the project on track but also made the final outcome truly reflect their vision.

The result was nothing short of spectacular. The McClelland home now boasts a beautiful, functional space that has not only met but exceeded the client's expectations. This transformation was recognized at the 2023 Master Builders Regional Awards, where it won Best Renovation/Addition in the $300k - $500k category—a testament to the quality and care that went into the project.

This renovation has created a lasting legacy—a home that not only meets their needs today but will continue to serve them well into the future. It’s a project that stands as a proud example of what can be achieved when modern functionality is carefully balanced with the preservation of character and charm.
