Full Rebuild In Mermaid Beach
A Coastal Home Reimagined for a Growing Family
This renovation tells the story of a young and energetic family of five whose busy coastal lifestyle revolves around swimming, triathlon and creating a home that can evolve with their needs. Their property has undergone an incredible transformation since the original brick beach cottage first stood on the site. Our team completed a major extension in 2014 when the couple were expecting their first child, adding a generous kitchen and living area with a butlers pantry, along with a refreshed laundry and an additional room. With three children now under ten, the family once again needed more space, and the idea of building upward became the natural next step.
The project centred on a full new upper floor constructed with a truss system designed to neatly house air conditioning while allowing for impressive scissor truss ceilings. A new two storey extension to the front created additional bedrooms and bathrooms, complemented by striking American Oak stairs, a modern carport and a redesigned driveway with a new crossover. Creating a bright beachside feel guided much of the design, achieved through extensive glazing, Velux skylights and the use of James Hardie Scyon Linea cladding with battened gable ends. VJ feature panelling, engineered oak flooring, Bradnams windows and carefully selected fittings completed the look.
Challenges such as limited street parking and tricky surface drainage were managed with careful planning. One standout feature is the polished concrete driveway and carport, expertly ground back and sealed to create a sleek coastal welcome. The end result is a beautifully cohesive space that supports the family’s active lifestyle and sets the scene for many years of memories ahead.
