A Fresh Start in the Hinterland

A Fresh Start in the Hinterland

This renovation project brought new life to a much-loved family home, preparing it for a new chapter while honouring its long-standing role in the owners’ lives. The clients split their time working interstate and enjoying the outdoors, with a deep love for camping and nature. They initially set out to modernise their home for continued living but pivoted prior to commencing to prepare it for sale, choosing a more cost-effective approach that still delivered an impressive transformation.

The home, built in the early to mid-90s, showed clear signs of age and exposure to the elements. As we began work, hidden termite damage in structural walls was discovered during the bathroom demolition. This required immediate replacement of timbers and beams, as well as specialist inspections to confirm there was no ongoing infestation. Despite these surprises, the team worked closely with the clients to adjust the layout and maximise appeal, including removing a walk-in robe to expand the ensuite, which now feels spacious and luxurious.

Key highlights of the project included a complete overhaul of the kitchen, laundry, powder room, and ensuite. Light-toned Ballina Bone tiles now flow through the kitchen, dining, hallways, and bathrooms, creating a clean, cohesive atmosphere. Caesarstone benchtops, white and woodgrain polytec cabinetry, and brushed nickel tapware contribute to a soft, modern palette, with splashback windows and a waterfall-edge island bench turning the kitchen into a standout feature. Throughout the home, new LED lighting, fresh carpets, and a full internal repaint brought everything together.

One of the more memorable moments? Several snake encounters that had tradespeople on high alert, including one that dropped from the ceiling mid-demo. Thankfully, there were no venomous surprises. From unexpected wildlife to the sleek result, this renovation was a true journey from worn, to wonderful.
