Coastal Gym and Carport Extension
Coastal Gym and Carport Extension
This project transformed a coastal home into a more functional and flexible space for a young, active family. With two kids deeply involved in sport and a parent passionate about motorsport and outdoor toys, the existing layout was challenging. The house, built in the late eighties, sat on a steep driveway that made parking awkward, and a large section of unused land beside the garage was overgrown and wasted.
The aim was to create a versatile area that could be used as a home gym to support the family’s sporting lifestyle, while also adding space to store vehicles and recreational gear. The new extension needed to feel open, comfortable and ready for future conversion into a self-contained living space if needed.
We added a new structure beside the garage that includes a carport, bathroom and gym area with raked ceilings to give the room a larger and more inviting feel. The external finish features James Hardie Scyon Linear board and Fine Texture, while hybrid timber look flooring and fresh white walls create a clean coastal atmosphere that ties in with the existing home. Bradnams windows and doors bring natural light into the space and complete the modern feel.
During construction we uncovered a failing retaining wall that had not been backfilled correctly. This required immediate attention, so we installed proper drainage material, corrected the backfill and poured a new slab to ensure long term stability.
The trust the clients placed in us from start to finish allowed for a smooth build and a high quality outcome. The finished space suits the family perfectly, and their enthusiasm at handover made the project especially rewarding.
